13 November 2005 Price: €495.
Who's behind it?
Italian sculptural artist Paolo Marj who specialises in lamps made from plexiglass, beech and walnut.
Is he an established designer or up-and-coming?
Paolo Marj's standing as a sculptural artist is well established. He was recently honoured by the Italian state, which commissioned him to light the newly restored Castel Sant'Angelo on the river Tiber.
Does he have a signature style?
Not as such. Marj produces decorative works of art as well as functional pieces, including bowls and table centrepieces, which are priced from as little as €30. His handcrafted lighting designs, which are priced between €60 and €495, are particularly impressive and include everything from conical-shaped wall lights to standalone floral cups.
