Domenico Passagrilli has been working with glass for 32 years. He trained first of all in the art of stained glass and achieved recognition in his native Rome as one of Italy's leading stained glass artists.
Over the last 10 years Passagrilli has turned his attention to a new field and played a leading part in the specialised technique of glass fusion. He has pioneered his own technique, which involves first of all sandwiching liquids and powders such as sugar and abrasives between thin layers of glass. The glass is then designed and styled on moulds and placed within a kiln. At his atelier, Passagrilli, produces purely decorative works of art as well as functional pieces; pieces of great individuality that uniquely reflects his creative impulse at the time of design. His distinctive objects are stunning and bold.
An important piece of work for Passagrilli was a commission to design an entire glass wall for the reception room of the Spanish Embassy to the Holy See, to commemorate the Millennium Jubilee Year. His commissions have received international acclaim including favourable reviews from America's International Herald Tribune, Britain's Daily Telegraph and Japan's leading interiors magazine Pen.
